Veyari: The Oath-Bound Echoes

“We are the promise made flesh, the echo of every vow that ever mattered.”

Overview

The Veyari are the Mythborn descendants of the ancient Vaelkin—the celestial oathbearers once bound to the divine workings of the cosmos. Though the Vaelkin remain apart in their radiant realms, the Veyari walk the world as their earthly echoes: luminous, compelling, and shaped by the gravity of promises.

Where the Vaelkin were beings of law and balance, the Veyari are tethered to those ideals by blood and will. They are born with an instinctual understanding of contracts, intent, and the power of one’s word. Oaths made in their presence are heavy things—and breaking them often bears real consequence.

Physical Traits

  • Aura: Subtle shimmer or glow in certain lights, often tied to emotion.
  • Eyes: Bright with unnatural clarity—silver, starlit blue, or veined with light.
  • Skin: Smooth, often fair or metallic-hued, sometimes showing faint sigils or oaths across the surface.
  • Voice: Eerily melodic or resonant, especially when reciting vows or ritual speech.
  • Other Traits: May resist forced truth detection; some carry marks of their ancestral oaths as glowing brands.

Culture

Veyari culture revolves around honor, ritual, and the unseen architecture of promises. They are not all noble or kind—but they are consistent.

  • To break your word is to break your self.
  • An oath unspoken still echoes if it was felt.
  • Law is not rules. Law is balance.

They often serve as mediators, judges, emissaries, or stewards of sacred spaces. Their homes are quiet sanctums of celestial geometry, reflecting the harmony their ancestors once upheld.

Magic & Abilities

Veyari do not wield power casually. Their magic activates through speech, pact, and purpose.

  • Oathbinding – Enforce or seal an agreement, contract, or promise with magical consequence.
  • Wordwoven – Shape light or force through spoken intent.
  • Aetherstep – Momentarily shift through realms to bypass barriers or distance.
  • Balancecall – Sense imbalance, lies, or cosmic breaches in their vicinity.
  • Promiseflare – When a Veyari is betrayed or deeply wronged, a radiant backlash can erupt.

Role in the World

  • Judicators: Trusted arbiters in ancient courts or cosmic tribunals.
  • Wardens of Relics: Many protect artifacts tied to old promises.
  • Luminarchs: Teachers or guides who illuminate hidden truths.
  • Harmony-Keepers: Serve alongside druids, Seers, or Flamebearers to maintain leyline or moral balance.

Relationships

  • With Mortals: Seen as noble or unnerving. Many are drawn to their beauty but fear their power.
  • With Noctari: Bitter enemies. Oathbreakers are anathema to Veyari.
  • With Shadowkin: Complex. Respect for the Veil, but a distrust of silence.
  • With Feralthane: Respect for wild loyalty, but find them unreliable in high matters.
  • With Seers: Deep kinship. Both walk paths of vision and purpose.

Lore & Legacy

  • The Oathspire still stands where the first Veyari pact was sworn—it hums when promises are made nearby.
  • Some Veyari are born with Ancestral Vows written in their skin, glowing softly when a kindred oath is spoken.
  • A fallen Veyari who breaks their vow becomes a Waneborn —a twisted echo of what they once were.
