Overview
Where steampunk ingenuity collides with arcane curiosity, the Arcforge Order reigns supreme. Based in Flamecoil Labs within the Emberfall Sector, this volatile collective of inventors, spellwrights, and reckless visionaries blurs the line between science and sorcery. If it’s glowing, whirring, sparking, or ticking ominously, it likely came from their hands.
Purpose: To innovate, engineer, and experiment with the boundaries of steampunk technology and arcane energy—often at great personal and public risk.
Typical Members: Tinkerers, artificers, rune-etchers, spellwrights, unstable geniuses, and bold apprentices willing to risk their eyebrows for progress.
Motto: “Progress takes fire.”
History & Lore
Founded in the early rise of Ironspire’s industrial age, the Arcforge Order emerged when a rogue group of scholars and engineers broke away from the Spiral Archive. Frustrated with the Archive’s caution and hoarding of knowledge, the Arcforgers declared their right to invention through chaos.
Their initial success came with the construction of the Ember Conduit, a device that temporarily powered half of Ironspire—before nearly melting the city core. Since then, they’ve operated under high scrutiny and higher voltage.
Rumor has it the Order’s founder, Professor Caldus Vree, once opened a portal to another dimension during a routine gear calibration. Whether this dimension was real, imagined, or somewhere between is still debated.
Culture & Reputation
Members of the Arcforge Order are seen as brilliant, mad, or both. Lab coats are optional; scorched gloves are not. Their culture thrives on iteration, failure, and spectacular recovery. Internally, there’s a competitive streak—each trying to outdo the last invention. Externally, they’re both admired and feared.
Public Perception:
- “Dangerous but useful.”
- “They powered the city for a week. They also blew up three bakeries.”
Ranks & Roles
- Forgekeeper Primus – The elected leader of the Order. Currently: Professor Caldus Vree
- Ignition Wardens – Senior inventors and project leaders.
- Flamewrights – Mid-level tinkerers authorized to build unsupervised.
- Coilhands – Junior members and apprentices.
- Red Tags – Sanctioned hazards-in-training. Monitored at all times.
Joining the Guild
In-Character:
- Apply with a prototype or schematic (functional or not).
- Survive a week of “Observation Lab” tests.
- Receive your Coilbrand—a glowing mark of entry burned into a gauntlet or palm.
Out-of-Character:
- Message staff to express interest and be added to the guild’s role.
- Guild-specific RP tools (gadgets, lab props, blueprints) available on request.
- All races welcome, though mechanical aptitude or magical theory knowledge is preferred.
Integration Points
- Unity Maxim: Supports crafting (artifice, gadgetry), engineering, and alchemy systems.
- The Spiral Archive: Rivaled over hoarded knowledge vs. shared invention.
- The Emberforge Collective: Competition for funding and raw materials.
- The Coinclave: Frequent funders—and victims—of Arcforge tech.
Symbol & Colors
- Symbol: A stylized gear ignited by flame, surrounding a rune-inscribed coil.
- Colors: Brass, bronze, cobalt blue, and arcane green glow.
Rumors & Plot Hooks
- Their newest prototype might stabilize magical flight—or explode on takeoff.
- An Arcforge experiment accidentally created a sentient AI.
- A former member vanished mid-teleport; their lab still hums.
- The city wants to shut them down. They may blow something up to stay open.
Notable Figures
- Professor Caldus Vree – Unaging, unblinking, and likely part machine. Reclusive but revered.
- Nova Wick – A flamewright specializing in combustion-powered prosthetics. Has no eyebrows.
- Jaxel “Clicks” Reeve – A Red Tag who speaks only in beeps. No one knows why.
