Valkyren

Drakari of the Skyclad Dragons

“We do not chase the storm. We soar beyond it.”

Descended from the mighty Skyclad dragons—creatures of air, honor, and ancestral truth—the Valkyren carry the winds in their blood. Graceful and disciplined, they are often the most visible of the Drakari lineages, known for their lofty ideals and impossible standards.

Lineage Traits

Name: Valkyren
Also Known As: Windborn, Highbloods, Skywalkers

  • Ancestry Source: Descended from Skyclad dragons, known for wings of crystal wind and eyes that see through lies
  • Form Traits: Tall and lithe with striking, hawk-like features; feathered tattoos or birthmarks; unnerving gaze
  • Shifting Ability: Can shift into partial or full winged draconic form; known for elegant gliding and aerial agility

Elemental Affinity

  • Primary Element: Air (clear skies, sharp winds, breath, and altitude)
  • Secondary Traits: Truth, loyalty, vision, and clarity
  • Magical Quirks: Their presence often sharpens thought; words spoken in their presence seem to carry more weight

Temperament & Culture

  • Valkyren are disciplined, just, and bound by honor
  • Known for keeping records, enforcing codes, and tracking ancestral lines
  • Prone to guilt or shame if they feel they’ve failed a duty

They see themselves as guardians of high ideals — not rulers, but guides.

Dual-Mind Instinct

Drakari are creatures of conflict. Every Valkyren carries two minds:

The Blade — cold, loyal, honor-bound, relentless, designed to obey the mission at all costs
The Flesh — passionate, questioning, intuitive, susceptible to doubt and desire

This split defines their inner war. The Blade demands order; the Flesh seeks freedom. If the balance falters, a Valkyren may hesitate, fracture—or worse, rebel against their oath and lose the identity that defines them.

Bonding Tendencies

  • Matebonds: Strong and lifelong, often formed only after intense mutual testing
  • Oathbound: Valkyren are selective and often oathbind with those who represent justice, clarity, or leadership
  • Chosen: Chosen bonds are rare and require ritual vetting or ancestral approval

If an Oathbound turns traitor, the Valkyren may be driven to exile or a vow of silence for years.

Unique Traits

  • Can slow falls or glide even when unshifted
  • Sight that can pierce illusion or detect lies
  • Their breath may carry cutting wind or stunning clarity
  • When emotionally charged, their voice can echo like thunder through the mind

Some Valkyren are rumored to be able to “read the wind” to find lost souls.

Cultural Notes

  • Often dwell on mountaintops, floating sanctuaries, or wind-temples
  • Keep personal flight journals and moral codices
  • Consider storms omens of shame or unfulfilled duty

“To fall is not to fail — unless you forget how to fly.”
