Velessari

Drakari of the Wyrmkin Dragons

“We do not fly. We rise.”

Among all Drakari lineages, none are as ancient or mysterious as those descended from the iMoogi—the great serpent-dragons of myth and riverdream. Fluid and elusive, they are whispered about more than seen, and their descendants often share this haunting, half-forgotten grace.

Lineage Traits

Name: Velassari
Also Known As: Dreamtouched, Riverborn, the Scaled

  • Ancestry Source: Descended from Wyrmkin, a proto-dragon species that predates flight
  • Form Traits: Long, serpentine builds even in humanoid form; eyes like glassy water; movement that mimics currents
  • Shifting Ability: Can partially shift into aquatic serpent form; full shifts are rare and require water. They do not possess wings and cannot fly in any form.

Elemental Affinity

  • Primary Element: Water (especially still, dream-haunted water)
  • Secondary Traits: Mist, memory, intuition, and sleep-magic
  • Magical Quirks: Their spells ripple outward like thought through water; dreams often predict reality

Temperament & Culture

  • Velassari tend to be introspective, gentle, and unnervingly perceptive
  • They are spiritual seekers, dreamwalkers, and masters of mental magic
  • Their physical softness belies a mind like a coiled blade

Velassari rarely reveal their true nature. Their scales are softer than those of other Drakari—more akin to skin or velvet than armor—and they avoid conflict unless cornered. Instead, they build lives around understanding, manipulating, or healing the mind. As they age, their powers deepen, and some are said to be able to extract secrets from memory as easily as drawing water from a well.

“Silence is not peace. It is preparation.”

Dual-Mind Instinct

Drakari are creatures of conflict. Every Velessari carries two minds:

The Spider — cunning, manipulative, seductive, weaving truths into traps
The Host — charming, emotional, self-deceptive, unaware how much control they’ve already lost

Their power lies in blurred identity. The Spider whispers from within, always watching, always weaving. If the Host forgets where the voice ends and the self begins… they become the web, not the weaver.

Bonding Tendencies

  • Matebonds: Unique among their kind, Velassari may form a deep matebond, granting full telepathic connection, but only with one individual
  • Oathbound: Velassari often seek out Oathbound not to command—but to stabilize. Their Oathbound gains minor water and dream magics, but the bond also strengthens the Velassari’s emotional balance
  • Chosen: Rarely granted. Each Chosen drains a thread of magic and clarity. More than one risks madness

When in full serpent form, they can briefly speak to their Oathbound telepathically, especially during moments of deep focus or danger. But should that Oathbound die, the Velassari may collapse—emotionally and magically. Recovery is uncertain, and even if they later bond again, they are never quite the same.

Unique Traits

  • Can enter and influence others’ dreams
  • May breathe underwater for extended periods
  • Their tears hold minor prophetic power
  • Sleep near them is often restful—or filled with omens

Some believe they can whisper to unborn Dragonborn still dormant in their eggs.

Hidden Nature

Because of their mental prowess, Velassari are both feared and hunted in some regions. The ability to read thoughts, plant dreams, or cause someone to forget can be seen as a blessing—or a violation.

As such, many conceal their identity behind glamours, false names, or careers that let them observe without notice. Some become sages. Others, spies. And the darkest among them… assassins.

Alignment & Moral Nature

Unlike true dragons, the Velassari do not wear the marks of corruption or enlightenment on their bodies. They do not “fall” toward Blightwing form or rise toward Skyclad purity. The sacred fire that once marked such change has long since faded in their diluted bloodline.

Instead, like mortals, they are what they choose to be: kind or cruel, wise or wicked.

Which makes them all the more dangerous.

“A true serpent leaves no tracks. Only questions.”
