Zarashi

Drakari of the Drownkin Dragons

“We are the song that sinks ships. The scream beneath serenity.”

The Zarashi are what happens when the deep forgets peace—and remembers hunger. Descended from the fallen Aquarion dragons known as Drownkin, the Zarashi are Drakari born of corruption, void, and the sea’s darkest whisper. They do not mourn what the Abyssari lost. They revel in what was unleashed.

Zarashi are not just sea-dwellers. They are invaders. They rise from trench-choked cities and drowned temples to poison the land above. Where Abyssari were predators with patience, Zarashi are monsters of malice. If you see one, you’re already prey.

Lineage Traits

Name: Zarashi
Also Known As: Drowned Kin, Rotborn, Sirenscourge

  • Ancestry Source: Corrupted lineage of Aquarion dragons, known as Drownkin
  • Form Traits: Slick black scales streaked with algae or rot green; milky or pitch-black eyes; bodies marked by coral-like growths, barnacles, or fleshy fins
  • Shifting Ability: Massive eel-like dragon forms with fang-lined gullets, rotting fins, and poisonous breath; cannot fly but can leap with terrible force

Elemental Affinity

  • Primary Element: Corrupted Water (brine, decay, parasitic sludge)
  • Secondary Traits: Venom, hallucination, psychic screaming
  • Magical Quirks: Their presence clouds clarity; mortals often experience nausea, dread, or vertigo near them

Temperament & Culture

  • Chaotic and cruel, driven by twisted instincts
  • Tideborn Nihilists — believe everything belongs to the sea eventually
  • Feral-bonded — even among themselves, they form unstable packs, often turning on each other
  • Live in: Black coral hives, sunken plague-reefs, or labyrinthine trench warrens

Where the Abyssari keep to shadows, Zarashi drag the shadows with them.

The Broken Dual-Mind

All Drakari possess two minds: the mortal and the dragon. But in Zarashi, that balance is shattered.

  • The dragon screams endlessly—starved, betrayed, corrupted
  • The mortal self either submits… or is devoured from within

Most Zarashi are little more than walking nightmares wearing skin. Those who retain sanity are the most dangerous of all—they have clarity of purpose.

Bonding Tendencies

  • Matebonds: Twisted, obsessive, often fatal — feeding becomes part of intimacy
  • Oathbound: Only formed with the broken, desperate, or already corrupted
    • Gains: Water toxicity resistance, immunity to fear, and the ability to exhale brine vapor
    • Shared dreams are more like night terrors
  • Chosen: Marked by infection, not affection. A Chosen often doesn’t realize what they’ve become until it’s far too late

To bond with a Zarashi is to drown… slowly, beautifully, and forever.

Unique Traits

  • Breath Weapon: A rotting fog or parasitic mist that eats at flesh and sanity
  • Can lure prey with false telepathy or song — the voice of a loved one, a promise, a scream
  • Can phase through shallow shadows if water is nearby
  • Leave a slimy residue that causes fear hallucinations in some mortals
  • Eyes reflect not light, but your worst memory

Cultural Notes

  • Zarashi do not worship Namsae — they believe she turned her face from them, so they spit curses instead of prayers
  • Their children are hatched in stillborn silence, often swimming alone within days
  • Some Zarashi feed not on food, but on emotional pain — they seek out the grieving and the guilty

“We are not corrupted. We are revealed.”

Zarashi are the echo of the deep’s rage. They are what happens when silence screams back.
